Science Activities for Kids

We have a range of science activities for kids that are designed to suit different age groups, with most activities for primary school aged children (5 – 12).

These cool science activities for kids are a great way to get your child interested in science and gain an understanding about health science and you never know the grown-ups might learn something too.

For younger children, we would recommend our Poo and You! Page as this is always the most popular. For older kids, we would recommend; What’s in our Cells, especially the fun activity Build a DNA Bracelet.

Our at home experiments are designed to be as clean and mess free as possible, but we would encourage you to keep an eye on your scientists.

Our printable science activities for kids may create some scrap paper as you cut them out, which we encourage you to recycle, or you could keep them for a science art activity for kids and create some papier-mâché DNA sculptures? Or Build a Strep A Bug? There are endless possibilities to create cool science activities for kids!

For our experiments you will only need simple ingredients and equipment found around the house, for example, our Germs experiment “A Soapy Magic Trick” only uses water, black pepper, a shallow bowl or plate, and dish soap!

Our printable science activities for kids will require a printer, either from home, a library or elsewhere.

Our activities have a wide range of difficulties, with easy science activities for kids to more complex activities for bigger kids. All our activities have simple and clear instructions that explain the steps.

The Discovery Centre’s science activities for kids do not use dangerous equipment however some require scissors or glue, and we would recommend you joining your child for their fun science activity.

Some of our activities, like our Quiz Me Activity require more than one person to play and is a fun science activity and who knows you may even learn something along the way!

They’re free! You can download and print them to get started on fun activities for kids. At the Telethon Kids Institute we are very passionate about getting people, young and old interested in health and science and believe that creating free and accessible fun science activities for kids is a great way to do this!

We understand, with so many fun science activities for kids to choose from, it can be hard to figure out where to start. All our activities for kids can be done separately as its own activity, you can create a plan by choosing different activities or you can complete every activity.

We would recommend starting at the activity Meeting the Superhero Scientists and see which scientist’s role is most interesting to your child. For example, you could ask your child “Would you like to learn more about what Dr Green does? Just like an epidemiologist, we can learn about investigating pattens and causes of disease and injury in humans” and then use our fun activities for kids to play Herd Immunity Jenga or learn about antibodies and pathogens with our Antibodies and Pathogens memory game.
