Get your class excited about science and health research with a school excursion to the Telethon Kids Institute!

Our primary school excursions offer the opportunity for students in Years 3-6 to visit Telethon Kids Institute and our interactive Discovery Centre inside Perth Children’s Hospital in Nedlands, Western Australia. Students participating in our 2-hour school excursion program get the opportunity to:

  • Spend time in the Discovery Centre, where students will learn about science, health and research through fun and interactive games
  • Engage in hands-on science activities run by our very own Telethon Kids researchers; and
  • Participate in a guided viewing of a real-life working science lab

** Please note that due to the changing situation with COVID-19, we are currently taking tentative bookings for Term 4 only. **

The benefits of school excursions are limitless with the science and health-based learning programs we offer at Telethon Kids Institute. We currently have the following topics on offer for our 2022 primary school excursion program:

  • Delicious DNA: Explore the world of DNA through a hands-on activity where your students will extract the DNA from strawberries.
  • How Sweet It Is!: Investigate the role of sugar and insulin in our bodies, and how they affect people with diabetes by measuring the level of glucose in sugary drinks.
  • Get a Lung of this: Discover the power of our lungs and make some slimy mucous to investigate how this affects kids with chronic respiratory illnesses.

We are constantly developing new programs and topics, so stay up-to-date and receive the latest information about our schools program by signing up to our Discovery Centre + Schools mailing list.

Our primary school excursion sessions typically run every Monday to Friday from 10.00am - 12.00pm during term time throughout the school year. The school excursion is a great opportunity for your students to visit a world-class research institute, interact with actual Telethon Kids researchers and see STEM subjects come to life, as they are applied to life-saving medical research.
